Belonging
Our time is England with family was amazing.
We walked each day along bridal paths,
many hundreds of years old.
They led to commons and creeks
gentle greenery, dappled shade
great on fairly hot summer days.
However it was like medicine to be back in the Australia bush.
We went to our local National Park at Bobbin Head.
made contact with the messy awkward trees and bush
in the Kalkari Discovery Walk.
We breathed in the eucalypt aroma and minty air,
listened to he iconic bush sounds
and finally felt at home again
with lots and lots of gratitude for the unruly trees
the messy ground of sticks and leaves and rock
The trees with their awesome shapes
scribbly gums, turpentiles, rugged iron barks, rich red river gums,
the last of the wattle
and with all their unique characters;
kookaburras laughing joyfully, magpies and their garrulous song .
The butcher birds joined in our picnic at the end,
so friendly and singing their hearts out for us with their ephemeral fluting song.
Bush medicine heals, brings us back to ourselves
and with gratitude it brings us home.
